Facebook Retooling Gets Mixed Responses
So, I'm fooling around on the newly retooled Facebook this afternoon, and my news feed looks something like this:*Friend 1* doesn't like this new Twitterbook.
*Friend 2* I feel the same way too. WTH? If I wanted to use twitter I would have signed up with twitter... lame!
*Aquaintance 1* I know! I don't want to Twitt.
*Childhood bully 1* Yeah, this is dumb. I want Facebook back.
*Friend 1* True to that, sir.
If my friends are any indication, there's a bit of user backlash about Facebook's new interface. On the whole, it's the same Facebook you know and love. The news feed is a bit busier, but ultimately, it's manageable with the provided filters. Some users find it to be messy and chaotic, but I, for one, appreciate more fresh info more often. Facebook's retooling does provide that.
But, it doesn't matter what I think, it matters what users think. Being the advocates of democracy that they are, Facebook provided an app where users are free to either give a "thumbs up" or a "thumbs down" to the new design. So far, users, much like my "friends," don't seem too happy with Facebook's new design. Here are the results of the voting so far, red being "don't like", green, "like":

Well Facebook, sorry for the results, but you did ask.
You can read user comments on the new design right where you vote. Judging by most of them, many users are having a hard time finding their stuff. With more and more Facebook users being new to social networking, cloud computing and the internet in general, it doesn't come as a surprise that many users are a bit alienated.
If you, like 95% of Facebookers, don't particularly like the new design, just wait a few months. Facebook underwent its last renovation nary six months ago, we'll probably see a new, new Facebook by Fall 2009.
