Speculation always gives us a little thrill - our heart beats with anticipation, occasionally you'll hear a small, girlish giggle escape and we start typing, eager to spread the speculation and feel like we've done some good in the world today.

That's why when we started reading about Marshall Kirkpatrick's speculations about how Twitter is going to make money, we had to spread the word. Yes, this is one hundred percent speculation, we don't have any way, yet, to back this up, but it seems like this speculation (unlike many others) is actually starting from solid ground.

For those twitterfied users that know, this new virtual IV of constant connection to friends and family rarely adds new features, relying on apps to change and update the UI and functions of the service. So when a new feature was added under the Find People section: Suggestions. The speculation is that this may be how Twitter will finally start making money. They will be able to sell friend connections to companies. It's pure genius if they could make it work.

We've heard other suggestions like keeping a "free" version of Twitter full of ads and such and then being able, for a small fee, to upgrade to a sans ads "pro" version of Twitter. Could you imagine telling people you're a Pro at Twitter? We're not sure if that will entail either being really popular and having lots of followers, being able to change your emotion status every five minutes or being able to manage following 7 billion people a day. We'll see how that pans out and update you with more speculations on what exactly Pro Twitter status will mean.
